Sacramento County deputies are investigating a gun violence incident that erupted on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment law enforcement were breaking up an unlawful assembly of hundreds of attendees.
Background
Deputies initially got calls about the park on Howe Avenue at about 6:30 PM after getting calls of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Not long after, additional information came in about a possible physical fight taking place inside the park.
A sheriff's airship searched from above but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, deputies found that hundreds of people had come together at the location without permission.
When the Shots Rang Out
Responding units started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems instructing attendees to leave immediately. About 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that 20 to 25 gunshots were fired. Gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Officers quickly moved to locating gunshot victims.
Four People Shot
When the dust settled, four gunshot victims were located with gunshot Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 injuries. All four — a group of one female and three male victims all reportedly in their twenties — were transported to area medical facilities. Medical teams reported that two victims were in serious condition, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four were expected to survive.
Sacramento fire crews also responded and helped care for the four victims at the scene.
The Investigation
Most of the gunfire was believed to have been concentrated on Cottage Way next to the Home Depot store on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Investigators located additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were noted in the wrought iron fence alongside the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was locked down as a precaution. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly through the early morning hours.
Suspect Vehicle Located
Details gathered through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been detained in the Solano County area. Four people were detained. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Solano County to pick up those detained for formal questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
